After the stimulus comes an EMR hiring boom

The equation is simple enough: billions of dollars equals lots of jobs. And so the federal stimulus for health IT is leading prognosticators to predict a hiring boom in the EMR market, as vendors and healthcare organizations alike will need legions of systems integration, programming, project management and training professionals.

In fact, NWjobs.com, an affiliate site of the Seattle Times, cites a Bureau of Labor Statistics forecast that there will be an 18 percent increase in employment among medical records and health IT professionals through 2016, far outpacing the average for all occupations. Vendors will have everything from entry-level telemarketing positions to six-figure sales jobs, and web technology means that many of the sales force will not have to spend their whole lives on the road.

On the provider side, there's a serious need for medical informatics types, those with both clinical and technical backgrounds, to lead and assist with workflow redesign.
