AMA wants EMR subsidies indexed for inflation, recommends breach responses
Saying that EMRs still are very expensive, the American Medical Association is recommending that the federal government index federal EMR subsidies for inflation, according to a resolution adopted at the group's annual House of Delegates meeting in Chicago this week. Delegates also called on the AMA to support policies that promote more affordable options, such as open-source software.
In case of an EMR security breach, the AMA recommends that physicians take four steps: inform the patient of the breach; follow "the ethically appropriate procedures" for disclosure; make sure that the patient's interests come first; and provide the patient with any information to help mitigate consequences of the breach.
