Florida Board of Medicine considers raising EHR, paper copy rates
The Florida Board of Medicine is considering changing its rules to allow providers to charge higher rates for copies of medical records, both paper and electronic, the Tampa Bay Times recently reported. The change would increase the rate to $1 per page; the current rate is $1 per page for the first 25 pages, and 25 cents per page thereafter. The proposed change would make the costs of electronic medical records copies the same as paper ones, and simplify administration, proponents say.
Opponents claim, among other things, that the increase would be an unfair burden on patients. The change would only affect patients and governments; attorneys already pay the higher rate. Article
