HRSA grants will support EMRs at safety-net clinics

The Health Resources and Services Administration is allocating some of its $2 billion in federal stimulus funding to help safety-net healthcare providers purchase EMRs and other health IT. This week, the HHS agency awarded $27.8 million in grants to 27 organizations that serve low-income and uninsured populations. The majority of the money--$22.6 million, covering 18 grants--will go toward EMR implementation projects. Another five of the grants are meant to help organizations that already have EMRs use their systems to improve patient outcomes, while others will go toward health information exchange.

"The grants make sure that our most vulnerable citizens will benefit from health information technology," national health IT coordinator Dr. David Blumenthal says. The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology will coordinate the awards alongside the $1.2 billion ONC is allocating to state-level health information exchange and health IT extension centers.

Dear HRSA it is very nice of you to offer the safety-net healthcare providers that purchase EMRs a grant subsidy... How about this. I will provide my EMR program Free of Charge to any Safety-Net Health Care provider with the caveat that they provide my portable EMR to their patients. This way their patients will be protected no matter where in the world they go and the doctors can get their grant money and every time they plug in the patients EMR to update it they get paid by the insurance companies or medicare. And what's better yet the patients can get reimbursed from the insurance companies as long as they have a letter of medical necessity (5 different models at present qualify for reimbursement)...
How does that sound??
I also have an idea.. I am willing to provide every doctor you come in contact with my free program (which I am told by some blows away Mysis, Cerner and most of the $40,000 programs).. if you in turn would provide me with a grant to market my FREE program to other physicians that don't want to spend $40-50,000 on programs because quite honestly they aren't worth the money. Do we have a deal????
ANY DOCTOR OUT THERE THAT WANTS MY EMR PROGRAM FOR FREE contact me at norman@sgmscorp.com
