Medsphere, Axeo join list of vendors offering guarantees on meaningful use
More and more EMR vendors are offering financial guarantees that their products will help customers achieve meaningful use of health IT, and thus qualify for federal subsidies under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The latest are Medsphere and a relatively unknown player, San Diego-based Axeo Systems.
Axeo, which says it produced the first integrated EMR/practice management system built on SQL and the Microsoft .NET framework in the late 1990s, will release a new version of its product next year, and won't require clients to pay until they determine that they are getting value out of the system. The web-based system will cost less than $100 per physician per month, and "you don't pay until you get paid," the company says.
Medsphere, maker of OpenVista, based on the VA's open-source VistA EMR, says it will commit one-third of its revenue as collateral to guarantee that it will help its customers install and get to meaningful use of OpenVista by 2011.
