Military Health System extends two EMR support contracts
The Military Health System has extended two key contracts to support its Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA) system, which the Pentagon calls the world's largest and most comprehensive EMR. Vendor EDS--now a subsidiary of Hewlett Packard--won a 12-month, $8.1 million add-on contract to help develop applications for AHLTA and the related Disability Evaluation System, part of the Defense Department's Wounded Warrior care program, Healthcare IT News reports. The enhancements will improve EMR management, increase collaboration across service lines, and perhaps finally create full interoperability between DoD and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Meanwhile, CliniComp International announced that it will install its Essentris inpatient clinical documentation system in 36 additional MHS treatment facilities over the next 18 to 24 months. The San Diego-based company this month is wrapping up an initial MHS project across all three armed services. "This is the first time an integrated delivery network this large has standardized--throughout all clinical areas--on one clinical system," CliniComp Chief Operating Officer Alan Portela says in a company statement.
