The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT has announced that it is providing $1 million in grants to support health information exchange and care coordination among providers that are not eligible for incentives from the Medicare and Medicaid Meaningful Use program.

The 10 community program grantees will collaborate with others in their communities to securely share data and link healthcare with social support, according to a post on the Health IT Buzz Blog by ONC Chief Medical Officer Thomas Mason.

Grantees include AltaMed Health Services Corporation, the National Healthy Start Association, the Rhode Island Quality Institute and the Utah Department of Health. The overarching goal is to complement the $38 million health IT grant program announced in July. The grants are part of ONC's interoperability roadmap. Post
