Physician adoption of EHRs up 10%

Electronic health record use continues to rise, increasing 10.7 percent from last year and bringing EHR adoption to 61 percent of physicians overall, according to a new report from SK&A, Medical Marketing & Media reported. Smaller physician practices were the biggest cause for the jump in EHR use; the percentage of solo practitioners adopting EHRs grew 11 percent, from 42.3 percent in 2013 to 53.7 percent in 2014.

The percentage of two-physician practices also grew 11 percent, from 53.7 percent to 64.9 percent. Hospitals and health systems increased their adoption of EHRs, as well. Hospital usage now stands at 70 percent, up from 61 percent in 2013; 71 percent of health systems now use EHRs, an increase from 63 percent. Article
