SPOTLIGHT: Scotland doc who peeked at celebrity EMRs escapes prosecution

Scottish officials have decided not to prosecute an emergency physician who accessed EMRs of numerous public figures, including British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, several BBC reporters and members of the hugely popular Celtic soccer club. Dr. Andrew Jamieson had been accused of violating privacy laws by looking at Emergency Care Summary records--a central repository of demographic data, medication lists and patient allergies for 5.2 million people in Scotland--of patients he didn't treat. But victims of the breach reportedly were told it would not be in the public interest to prosecute Jamieson because the doctor apparently was only looking out of curiosity, not with any financial motives in mind.
