SPOTLIGHT: VA expects VLER to be nationwide by 2012

The Department of Veterans Affairs plans to have the Virtual Lifetime Electronic Record (VLER)--a seamless EMR shared by the VA and Defense Department to track each service member from enlistment through retirement--deployed nationwide by 2012, according to the VA's latest strategic plan. "VA Strategic Plan 2010-2014" spells out details regarding VLER development and how the VA and DoD seek leverage the Nationwide Health Information Network for data sharing.
